Troubleshooting Damped Load cell

Fluid Damped Loadcell Information​

Fluid damped load cells are also called as Viscous damped loadcells, used mainly for dynamic weighing applications. Repeatability is of less than ±0.01% of full rated load. Here using Thames Side make (from UK) T16-05 model loadcell. The loadcell immersed in Viscous fluid (oil) for not affecting the load cell reading by the vibration.

Load cell having 6 wires for the connection with the loadcell controller. Model of the Loadcell: T16-05 (5kg loadcell).

In 4 wire config, Signal wires are not provided by the load cell, To avoid module in to thinking, it's not connected to the load cell, S+, S- wires should be connected to EXC+ and EXC- respectively.

Loadcell operation settings​

To edit the configuration of the module, Right click on the module and select Edit unit Operation Settings.

Required parameters are as bellow

Load cell Rated Output measured in mV/V changes from one load cell to another. Calibrated value would be provided by manufacturer either in calibration certificate or on the label.

Issue Identifications​

After doing the Zero & Span Calibration, the values are changing and inconsistent after few hours of operation. User must do Zero & Span calibrations after every power cycle. Identified that, issue of breathing valve in this type of load cells.

Troubleshooting Procedure​

During shipping the load cell module with breathing hole comes with the closed condition. To use the loadcell, user need to connect exhaust pipe to the breathing hole for air in and out from the load cell chamber. After connecting the exhaust pipe to the breathing hole, the Zero & Span calibration values in the load cell are retained and working well
